Are Your Products Preventing Your Skin From Getting “The Glow”?

If your dream is having a glowy baby-like skin, then buying and applying the most expensive and effective products is not enough. Actually, they may actually backfire in some cases! Yep, you heard this right. Your skin has a protective barrier that keeps it moisturized. This barrier is made of natural oils from our body to prevent loss of moisture and a natural moisture factor, which draws moisture from the air around us. Some active and non-active ingredients that you use mess with this barrier causing issues beyond drying your skin from clogging your pores to making your skin breakout.

The best way to describe this is that these products are suffocating your skin, not allowing it to breathe, get moisturized or benefit from other good products. So first of all, how do you know if certain ingredients are suffocating your skin? Your products will peel off… This is a sign your skin is not absorbing the product. There are two reasons for this:

You Are Using The Wrong Ingredients

Using or mixing ingredients that shouldn’t be used together may cause breakouts, congestion, and Millia, because cells, dirt, debris, toxins, and sweat are actually being trapped next to the skin.

Some dermatologists suggest that any large comedogenic molecule ingredient will make it hard for the skin to stay oxygenated and stay in “regenerative mode.” When your skin doesn’t absorb the ingredients you put on it they build-up causing it to breakout.

Some of the ingredients you should avoid include Mineral oil, petrolatum, isopropyl myristate, sodium laurel sulfate, sodium laureate sulfate, toluene, heavy metals, formaldehyde, arsenic, lanolin, coal tar, cocoa butter, and D&C Red dyes.

You Are Using Too Many Products

If you’re putting too much of a bad ingredient on your skin, it will end up clogging your pores, causing pimples, acne, and other skin problems. Also, too much of a good thing is bad… Using a huge amount of any product won’t give you better results, actually, it may backfire causing breakouts and rashes which is not our goal, right?

What To Do?

Exfoliate

Exfoliating regularly and gently is a good way to keep your skin cells renewing and resurfacing so it doesn’t suffocate. You may need a professional session to remove millia (the small, hard white impactions that do not extract easily as they are trapped cells beneath the skin with no follicle opening) from the skin.

Choose Absorbable Ingredients

Look for plant-based and skin-friendly oils such as olive, Kukui nut, apricot kernel, grapeseed, argan, rosehip seed, and evening primrose) that are water-soluble and can be washed easily from the skin without the use of an alcohol-based toner to remove residue.
