Beituti || Reviving Tradition Through the Taste of Meghli:“من كتاب ستي”

In the heart of Amman, we find Beituti, a concept that is more than just a business; it’s a heartfelt tribute to heritage, family, and unforgettable flavors passed down through generations. Founded with love by Farah Bint Shakir and Nadia Bdier and inspired by the cherished recipes of their grandmother and mother, respectively, “من كتاب ستي,” Beituti centers around the beloved Middle Eastern dessert, Meghli. Traditionally made to celebrate the birth of a new baby.  (Meghli is a spiced rice pudding with a unique blend of cinnamon, caraway, and anise, giving it a warm and aromatic flavor).

Known for its deep cultural roots and nostalgic aroma, Meghli is a symbol of togetherness, celebration, and family warmth. Beituti’s journey, from honoring a grandmother/mother’s legacy to mastering the delicate art of Meghli-making, reflects a beautiful balance of tradition and modernity. Join CIIN as we dive into the story of Beituti, where each spoonful of Meghli tells a story of love, family, and the joy of sharing something truly special.

Can you tell us the story behind Beituti and how it was inspired by “من كتاب ستي?”

We started Beituti to celebrate our beloved grandmother’s legacy. She had a magical touch in the kitchen, and her Meghli was always a standout. The name ‘Beituti,’ meaning ‘home’ in Arabic, felt right since our grandmother was a true ‘beitutiyeh.’ Her home was filled with family gatherings, delicious dishes, and countless cherished moments.

Meghli holds a special place in many homes, especially for celebrations. What does this dish represent to you personally and within your family traditions?

Beituti

For me, Meghli represents love, warmth, and togetherness. It brings back memories of the wonderful aroma that filled our home while my grandmother made it.

Why did you choose to focus on Meghli as the central product of Beituti?

We chose to focus on Meghli because Teta’s recipe is unique and loved by everyone who tries it. She enjoyed sharing it during special occasions, and we wanted to make that experience available to more people.

Could you walk us through the process of making Meghli and what makes your recipe unique?

This is a little secret ‘min ktab sitti’ that I can’t share. However, I can tell you that our recipe is based on tradition and made with love, using the highest quality and carefully chosen ingredients.”

What challenges do you face in preparing orders within the 24-hour time frame, and how do you manage to maintain quality and freshness?

Beituti

We ensure freshness and quality by making Meghli to order, which is why we chose a 24-hour timeframe. Our main challenge is finding the means to have our product readily available. We are eager to find a solution to satisfy our customers’ cravings immediately while maintaining the same standards.

How does being based in Amman influence your business and your customer base?

The warmth of the ‘Ammani’ community helps us build lasting relationships, making our business feel like home. Their love for traditional flavors and home-cooked recipes attracts them to our products.”

What role does social media, specifically DM orders, play in your business operations and customer engagement?

Social media keeps us connected! It allows us to engage with our customers and receive valuable feedback. This interaction helps us build trust and strong relationships, making our community feel even more like family. We also use social media to maximize our outreach and attract new customers. Accepting orders through DMs makes it more convenient for our customers to place their orders.

Can you share a memorable experience or feedback from a customer that made a lasting impact on you?

Beituti

Positive feedback is what keeps us going. One memorable experience was when a customer told us our Meghli was so delicious that she had to take a few cups to share with her friends immediately and they all loved it!

We also received a very touching review from one of our customers: “The best Meghli I’ve ever tasted! It’s so flavorful with the perfect blend of spices, rich in nuts, and each ingredient perfectly balanced. The texture is just right, with beautifully soaked and peeled nuts and a depth of flavor that’s incredibly satisfying. It’s so delicious, I will be craving it every day this is truly Meghli perfection!”

Hearing that made our day and reminded us why we do what we do.

Are there any plans to expand your product range beyond Meghli, or perhaps offer variations of it?

We’re taking it step by step and trying to stay present in the moment. Right now, our focus is on perfecting Meghli, but we have more recipes to surprise our customers with.

How does Beituti balance honoring traditional recipes with modern business practices?

We’ve kept our Meghli recipe authentic by using special ingredients and staying true to our values. At the same time, we use social media to connect with our customers and hear their feedback. It helps us feel close to our community!
