How Can These Vitamins Help With Vaginal Health

When it comes to vaginal health, there is a lot to think of, from its hygiene to its balanced pH and hydration levels. Scientifically speaking, our vaginas have their own microbiome (you can test at home btw). When this microbiome is balanced, it acts as a home to a diverse population of microbes that includes many Lactobacillus species. These bacteria produce lactic acid creating the optimal pH for the vagina. In this case, your vagina can prevent the overgrowth of harmful microbes that can lead to various infections. Any imbalance in Lactobacillus species is usually linked to an imbalance in vaginal and urinary health. These imbalances can lead to dryness, infections, and other unwanted vaginal health issues. 

What you may not know is that according to research, there is a link between some vitamin levels and vaginal health. What are these vitamins and how can they help. Read more to find out. 

1 || Vitamin D 

In addition to its benefits for bone health, research has shown that vitamin D can help increase female lubrication. Both oral vitamin D supplements and suppositories can decrease dryness and create a healthy vagina pH. How? Higher vitamin D levels help maintain a greater abundance of lactobacillus creating improvements in vaginal moisture and consistency. 

2 || Vitamin E 

The disease-fighting antioxidant is also beneficial for increasing lubrication and reducing vaginal dryness. Suppositories that contain vitamin E along with some other ingredients such as vitamin D, A, and hyaluronic acid can improve symptoms of vaginal atrophy, which is thinning, drying, and inflammation of the vaginal walls that may occur when your body has less estrogen. 

3 || Sea Buckthorn Oil 

This is a natural supplement that is derived from the leaves, seeds, and berries of the sea buckthorn plant. What is it good for? It is rich in fatty acids which can strengthen the barrier of the skin and protect against water loss. Also, it enhances wound healing, stimulates tissue regeneration, and increases the making of collagen. 

How does it help in vaginal health? Studies have shown that just three grams of sea buckthorn oil can improve vaginal tissue health. Not only that, taking this oil regularly can help improve vaginal elasticity and moisture. 

4 || Fish Oil 

This supplement basically increases your intake of omega-3 fatty acids. And studies have shown that high levels of fatty acids are highly associated with increasing female lubrication, especially during menopause. Also, taking omega-3 fatty acids may increase estrogen levels, which may also help prevent vaginal dryness. 

5 || Hyaluronic Acid

As you may already know, hyaluronic acid is associated with hydration. Although it is commonly used in cosmetics, you will find it also in supplement form. Hyaluronic acid supplements that contain other ingredients such as glucosamine sulfate, alpha-lipoic acid, and vitamins A, C, and E improved vaginal dryness. You can also use Topical gels and suppositories that contain a combination of hyaluronic acid, vitamin A and vitamin E to increase vaginal lubrication. 

6 || DHEA 

An abbreviation of dehydroepiandrosterone. Which is a steroid hormone that is linked to estrogen production. Like all other hormones, DHEA production decreases as we get older, so you may need to take it as a supplement to help balance hormone levels. 

For vaginal health, this hormone has shown its ability to improve female lubrication, reduce dryness, and increase levels of estrogen in postmenopausal women.
