Is Detoxing Your Skin Really A Thing?
January is detox month. The word “detox” means “remove toxins from your organs” and we do that to our bodies by following certain diets or going through a detox routine that might include only juice or water for a week or a month. While these are great for your overall health. Your skin, which is your largest organ needs a detox routine on its own. The holiday season, the bad diets, the stress of last year and the toxins in the environment and in your makeup and skincare products all wreak havoc on your skin. This makes detoxing your skin a must, not only at the beginning of the year but also whenever you need it. So how do you detox your skin?
1 || Start From The Inside
Beauty starts from within. If you want clearer more glowy skin then you need to cut off some food from your diets such as refined sugars, coffee, and junk snacking and replace it with healthy options such as leafy greens and healthy fats. Drink a lot of water and maybe make it a habit to start your day with warm lemon water.
2 || Stay Hydrated
Yea, it might be cliche to say that, but I can\’t stress the importance of drinking a lot of water enough. If you forget drinking water, keep a bottle of water with you wherever you go, or even download an app to remind you to drink water throughout the day. Also, properly moisturize your skin by using a serum twice a day followed by a day or night moisturizer and sunscreen in the morning. Facial oils are a great way for deeper hydration.
3 || Can You Skip Your Makeup?
In the holiday season, we indulged in heavy makeup looks which affected our skin badly. This month try to keep away from makeup, let your skin breathe, and enjoy your natural beauty. If you can\’t go out without it, keep it light. Use only safe non-toxic products. A minimal makeup routine may include a tinted moisturizer, blush, mascara, and a lip balm. Your face will still look awake but with the minimum amount of products.
4 || Apply Detox Masks
A clay mask might be a great way for detoxifying your skin. It helps to attract all the impurities to the surface so you can easily wash them off. Apply once or twice a week for best results.
5 || Cleansing
Your skin detox starts with a good cleansing routine. Make sure you do it twice a day using cleansers that suit your skin type, they don’t even have to be the same cleansers for day and night. If your skin is dry, an oil cleanser in the morning and a foam cleanser at night will be great gentle options for you. If you have oilier, more acne-prone skin, a water-based gel in the morning and at night would be beneficial to get out all of the build-ups.
6 || Facials
Start the new year by pampering your skin with a great facial. Facials are a great way to stimulate skin detox as they help purify your pores for all dirt and toxins.
7 || Exfoliate it
A build-up of dead skin cells can reduce the effectiveness of any skincare products you use, lead to breakouts, and even dull your entire complexion. You can exfoliate your skin by using scrubs or brushes, but if your skin is sensitive stick to the chemical type involving alpha and beta hydroxy acids. Remember to exfoliate gently and not to overdo it, twice a week should be enough.
