Your Ultimate Guide to Hair Loss || Causes

If there is one topic that never gets “over-talked” about, it is hair loss. We can’t just get over this issue or “embrace” it. It is annoying, making us constantly on the lookout for new solutions. And because half of the solution is knowing the cause, it is super crucial to have a good understanding of what’s making your hair fall. Let’s take you on a journey of all the causes and the latest solutions you can add to your trying list.

What Are The Causes Of Hair Loss?

1 || Genetics

The most common cause of hair loss. This condition is called androgenic alopecia, male-pattern baldness, and female-pattern baldness. It usually occurs gradually in a predictable pattern given your family history of hair loss. Mostly, it is a receding hairline and bald spots in men and thinning hair along the crown of the scalp in women.

2 || Medical Conditions

If everything you are trying isn’t working, it may be because you are not solving the root cause that is leading to your hair loss. Thyroid disorders, iron, zinc, and vitamin deficiencies all contribute to hair loss. So make sure you do a thyroid panel blood test along with other vitamin blood tests. This way, you get an idea of what’s causing your hair to thin and get a targeted treatment.

3 || Scalp Infections

Did you know that dandruff is considered a scalp infection and can lead to hair loss? Other infections that contribute to hair loss are psoriasis, folliculitis, ringworm, piedra, and seborrheic dermatitis. If you have any of these conditions, treat it and see how it affects your hair loss.

4 || Hormonal Changes

In case you went through dramatic hair loss postpartum, during menopause, or when taking birth control pills, it means you get affected by hormonal changes.

5 || Stress & Trauma

Have you ever faced hair loss following a difficult phase in your life? This condition is known as telogen effluvium, characterized by significant and diffuse hair shedding. The good news is that it’s a reversible condition, and once the underlying stress is addressed, your hair will regrow.

6 || Nutritional Deficiencies

As mentioned earlier, certain vitamin deficiencies like iron, zinc, and biotin can be the reason for your hair loss. But it is worth mentioning that biotin which is marketed as your hair loss savior, is not that helpful unless you are biotin deficient.

7 || Certain Hair Practices

If you are somebody who pulls your hair a lot does a lot of braids or wears tight ponytails, expect to see hair thinning at your hairline.

Also, using hot styling tools or chemical treatments regularly is another cause of breakage and hair loss.

8 || Age

This one is known by nature. As we grow older and wiser, everything else descends.
