Your Full Guide To Underarms Detox & Nourishment

It’s summer… This means a lot of hot and sweaty days to come. And one of the most important areas to pay attention to in summer is the underarm area. Why? First of all, because this area gathers a lot of bacteria that creates a bad smell when it interacts with the sweat and oils there.

Pigmentation is another annoying issue that you might have in this area. Darker underarm skin can keep some people from dressing in sleeveless tops or wearing bathing suits in public. Here comes the importance of taking extra care of this part of the body, especially when beach season is here.

1 || Daily Cleansing

Your armpits make for a perfect environment for bacteria and fungal considering the lack of airflow and the fact that they stay moist a lot of the time. That said, cleansing daily with a body cleanser is much needed to reduce unwanted moisture and the growth of smelly bacteria. While it is recommended to wash your underarm area once a day as it is a delicate area, you can wash gently more than once if needed; after intense physical activity or so.

Exfoliate once or twice a week to remove dead skin and stimulate skin cell renewal is important for healthy underarms. Physical or chemical exfoliants help to remove excess oil, get rid of the clogged pores, pimples, and buildup of dead, dull and sometimes discolored skin. Glycolic toner is a gentle option to remove dead skin and improve overall tone and texture. Exfoliating deodorant pads which team fruit-based glycolic acids with probiotics and antioxidant-rich ingredients to inhibit the bacteria that cause bad odor and reset the natural balance of the skin’s microbiome.

3 ||  Moisturize

It is skin too, right? So it needs to be moisturized exactly like other parts of your body. Moisturize with pH-balanced boy lotion once or twice a week or when needed to make your underarm look and feel their best.

4 || If You Want Lighter Armpits, Stop Shaving!

Or if you have to, do so gently. The most annoying thing you may experience is to have darker skin underarms. This can lead to a serious lack of confidence and self-esteem. One of the reasons for pigmentation in this area is shaving with a razor that’s why most women choose to get rid of excess hair with wax or laser. If you have to shave for any reason, do so gently using a shaving gel or soap to make the razor slide smoothly avoiding any razor ouches.

5 || Use Natural Deodorant

When you choose a natural deodorant, this means that it is made without the aluminum, but this doesn’t mean that you will end up sweating like a certain pink animal! All it means is that even though you may still shed a little sweat, but due to a concoction of bacteria-fighting ingredients, you would be smelling fresh for hours. Though you may need to reapply your natural deodorant earlier than you would apply a regular one or an anti-perspirant just in case!!

6 || Lighten Your Underarms Naturally

Search “armpits lightening masks” on google or YouTube and you will get unlimited number of DIY masks that you can do easily at home to brighten the color of  your underarm area.

7 || Medical Treatments

When natural methods do not give you the result you want, medical treatments come in handy. If you have discolored skin underarm your doctor may recommend you some topical creams that contains hydroquinone, tretinoin, corticosteroids, azelaic acid, or kojic acid, or chemical peels with alpha or beta hydroxy.
